Carolina Soares

Master's Student

I hold a BSc in Biochemistry and am currently pursuing a MSc in Molecular Genetics and Biomedicine at NOVA FCT. I am conducting my MSc thesis at the Correia Lab, where I am studying the immune mechanisms regulating breast cancer metastatic dormancy in the liver.

Carolina Soares completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry in 2025 at NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT-Nova), in Lisbon. For her bachelor thesis, she joined the Laboratory of DNA Damage & Repair led by Susana Silva at the Nova Medical School, where she studied the expression profile of genes involved in solute transport mechanisms in cellular models of breast cancer. Her interest in cancer biology has motivated her to pursue a Master’s program in Molecular Genetics and Biomedicine at NOVA FCT.

Keen in exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cancer progression and metastasis, and developing her research skillset in this field, Carolina joined the Correia Lab in June 2026 as a summer intern. Her exciting experience motivated her to stay and develop her Master's thesis. Under close supervision of Catarina Matos, she investigates immune mechanisms regulating breast cancer metastatic dormancy in the liver.
