We warmly welcome our second PhD student, Arjun Aji Reeja, and newest research assistant, Jennifer Murray, to the Correia team!
Arjun comes from Kollam, in India, and joins us as a PhD student from the ICDP 2023 cohort. Arjun did his Master's thesis in the Stem Cells and Tissue Homeostasis Laboratory at ACTREC, Tata Memorial Centre, India, under supervision of Rohan Jayant Khadilkar, where he studied epigenetic regulation of blood homeostasis in fruit flies. He continued his journey as a research assistant at the same laboratory, and his work demonstrated that the histone acetyltransferase, Gcn5, acts as a nutrient sensor and negatively regulates autophagy-mediated control of blood cell homeostasis. Now Arjun embraces a new challenge in cancer research, and will focus his PhD on understanding stromal cell dynamics during the formation of breast cancer liver metastases.
Jennifer is a registered Veterinary and Laboratory Animal Technician from Kingston, in Canada, and joins us after many years working in medical research in Canada, the U.K. and Switzerland. She has worked with pigs, chicken, non-human primates and lately rodents, from husbandry and monitoring to assisting surgeries. Now she comes to Portugal excited to apply her skill set in support of multiple research projects in the Correia Lab.
Welcome Arjun and Jenn, and keep rockin'!
